Wayne Leonard Gorby

Wayne Leonard Gorby, 75, of Washington, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in his home. He was born March 29, 1939, in Washington, a son of the late Raymond “Pete” Gorby and Ruth Sibert Gorby. A 1959 graduate of Trinity High School, Mr. Gorby worked for McGraw Edison for 16 years and for the State of Pennsylvania at the Goodrich Armory for 20 years. He also worked for Centennial Security for numerous years. He served in the Army Reserves and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for nearly 30 years and was past national commander of the Society of the 28th Infantry Division. A familiar face at area baseball fields, Mr. Gorby ran the concession stands for Washington Youth Baseball for more than 10 years and enjoyed following his grandsons from ball field to ball field watching them play. In addition to baseball, he loved fishing and was an avid dart ball player. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was a member of the choir. On June 20, 1959, he married Alice Clemens, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Wayne (Debbie Cahill) Gorby of Helena, Alabama and Timothy Lee (Lisa Spossey) Gorby of Washington; two daughters, Rebecca Marie (Ken) MacInnes of Warminster and Marian Jean (Dan) Johnson of Washington; two brothers, Russell (Rose Ann) Gorby and Earl Gorby, both of Washington; one sister, Eva Scarburry of Brandon, Florida; eight grandchildren, Tanner, Turner and Taylen Gorby, Lottie (Patrick) Yeager, Jack Johnson Jr., Ashley and Nathan MacInnes and Lacy Gorby; five great-grandchildren, Aiden and Savion Yeager, Ashton Gorby, Allysa Henderson and Chevy Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Raymond Leslie and Ronald Gorby; and four sisters, Virginia Sakerka, Iva Sabatassi, Delores Clutter and Judy Bird. Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 till 11 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, March 21st, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with Rev. Peter D. Asplin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Campaign at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 21 Church Road, Scenery Hill, PA 15360.
