Dorothy Wilson James

Dorothy Wilson James, 86, of Greenville, formerly of Washington, died Monday, March 9, 2015. She was born September 29, 1928, in Washington, a daughter of the late Harry Lloyd Wilson and Rebecca B. Cox Wilson. Mrs. James graduated from Washington High School. She worked at Bell Telephone and later was co-owner/manager of James’ Food Market together with her husband until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Calvary Temple, and served on numerous committees and in leadership positions at both churches over the years. She also served as a volunteer tutor for the Washington Literacy Council where she was a strong advocate for the promotion of education and literacy in the community. On June 21, 1950, she married Leslie John James, who died February 24, 2014. Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca James Hecking; son-in-law, Patrick Hecking; three grandchildren, Steven, Matthew and Julia Hecking; and a sister, Gloria Weber of Hickory. Deceased are two brothers, Harry A. Wilson and John Paul Wilson. Friends will be received Monday, March 16th from 2 to 4 p.m., with service immediately following at 4 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Karen Stevenson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Literacy Council of Southwestern Pennsylvania, PO Box 1584, Washington, PA 15301; Citizens Library, 55 South College St., Washington, PA 15301; or to St. Paul’s Continuing Care Community, Residents Activities Fund, 339 E. Jamestown Road, Greenville, PA 16125.
