Rose Jean Mazzie, 97, of Washington, PA, born Generosa Montecalvo on August 15, 1917, passed away peacefully under the care of Family Hospice in Pittsburgh on Monday, February 16, 2015.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Arthur Mazzie; son, Robert Mazzie; son-in-law, Donald Novogradac; three sisters (Elizabeth, Mary Lou, and Amelia); one brother (Guy); and her dear friend, Kenny.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Darla Novogradac (Jack); daughter-in-law, Norma Mazzie; brother James Montecalvo (Dorothy); brother-in-law Nello Marry; grandchildren Robin (Rob), Robbie (Jamie), Brian (Catie), Brandon (Lindsey), and Kara (Julian); great-grandchildren Robert, Justin, Rachel, Angelica, Jacob, Adele, Nadia, and Mason; nieces and nephews; her kindhearted friend, Sue; and a host of treasured family and friends.
Rose walked this earth in faith and in love, blessing her family and neighbors with an easy, enduring grace. She made every visitor in her home feel welcome, heard, and special. Her gift was the ability to see the humanity in everyone, with acceptance and tolerance well ahead of her time. In her younger years, Rose especially enjoyed going to dances with her sisters. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. We will miss her kindness, her quick sense of humor, and her unmatchable pie crusts.
