Edward Paul Cress

Edward Paul Cress, 88 of Claysville, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Washington County Health Center. He was born May 4, 1926 in Weirton, WV, the son of the late Clarence Cress Sr. and Garnett Nicholson Cress. Edward attended Trinity High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Hunt-Kennedy Post #639 and was featured as a Veteran in a documentary about Hero’s of Post #639. He was a glass worker at Ball Glass for 22 years, Hazel Atlas Glass for 23 years and also delivered for Viehmann Pharmacy. In addition he worked at the Welcome Center in Claysville and was a member of the auxiliary police in Washington. He was a member of the Friendship Community Church. Edward was a former member of Washington Moose Lodge #22, former President of Bowling Team, Financial Secretary for Hazel Atlas Union and helped set up a glass factory in Plainfield, IL. He enjoyed playing pool with friends at Post # 639. He was an avid CB’er and his handle was “Ridge Runner” On October 2, 1947 he married Goldie Naylor who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara (Mike Williams) Clemens, of Georgia, Cheryl “Penny” (James Pryor) Seaman of South Franklin Twp., Eva Cress of Claysville; a brother, Fred (Joyce) Cress of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Misty Harvey, Justin (Tanya) Seaman, Amanda (Joseph) Avelor and Travis Cress; three great grandchildren, Madison Harvey, Austin and Zachary Avelor; several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Eva Mae Bonifay and Bernice Cress; a brother, Clarence “Dickie” Cress Jr.; a grandson, Jason Clemens; stepmother, Louise Cress; son in law Lawrence Edward Clemens. Friends will be received Friday, December 19, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave, Washington, where services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Claysville Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Hunt-Kennedy Post #639.
