Shane William Takacs (38), passed away on 31 Mar 2013, in Belfair, Washington.
He was born in Washington, on October 4, 1974, a son of Theodore W. Takacs, Sr., and Ethel (William S.) Howatt.
Mr. Takacs graduated as valedictorian of his class from McGuffey High School in Claysville, PA in 1993, and entered the United State Navy shortly after.
Shane is remembered as a can-do Chief, critical to the resolution of many Sailor issues. He was a keen and proactive Sailor advocate, dedicated to development and creating opportunity. His service included sea tours on USS KENTUCKY and USS MAINE. During his Naval career he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (two awards), Navy ”E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (six awards), National Defense Service Medal (two awards), and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Mr. Takacs’ hobbies included performing duties as a volunteer firefighter, motorcycles, high performance cars, drag racing, hunting, and camping. His life was illuminated by the great outdoors.
Surviving, in addition to his parents and his stepfather, are, his wife, Penny Lehew-Takacs, 2 daughters, Breanna and Haley Takacs, 2 Step-children, Nick Ray Pulliam and Jessica Lehew; his grandmother, Julia Takacs; two brothers Teddy Takacs and Dwayne Takacs; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins
Shane’s life and military career were honored with a military memorial service at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, followed by burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
