John "Bill" Nichols

John William “Bill” Nichols was born July 7, 1929, in Scottdale, PA. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 14, 2012. Bill was the loving and beloved son of Gertrude and Edward Nichols. Bill and his family were given a special gift of love, laughter and memories the night before his passing. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Rosemarie “Ree” Nichols; his two daughters and son, Kathy Rae of Gig Harbor, Washington, Kim Durkin and son-in-law Denny Durkin of Dublin, Ohio, and Bill Nichols and daughter-in-law, Patti Nichols of Washington; granddaughters, Kelli Cole and Erin Ree Nichols of Washington; grandsons Dustin and Jesse Davis of Dublin, Ohio, Casey and Andrew Rae of Gig Harbor, Washington; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Huffman and Sage Cole. Bill graduated from Easton High School in 1947, where he was a star basketball and baseball player. He loved the game of golf and enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards and Scrabble, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Bill was a lifetime member of the Washington Country Club and was also a loyal member of the American Legion and the Elks. He was a successful Allstate Agent for 36 years. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years in the Berlin Airlift in Germany. Bill was an amazing man who loved and cherished his family. We will continue to adore our father and grandfather. He will be forever in our hearts. Friends will be received Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 18, 2012, with Rev. Duane Wolfe and Deb Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.Alz.org) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
