Doug Wilson Cahill, Jr.

Doug Wilson Cahill, Jr., 84, of Washington, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a one-month illness, after being in declining health for years. He was born November 14, 1927, in Grafton, W.V., a son of Douglas W. and Carrie Sapp Cahill, Sr. Mr. Cahill first served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and on November 15, 1950 he enlisted in the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and attaining the rank of Sergeant. For his service he received the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and an Honorable Discharge on October 29, 1952. A 1946 graduate of Washington High School, he was a Drum Major in the school band. He organized the Doug Cahill Dance Band in the 1950’s that was well known in the Tri-State area. Mr. Cahill was a Boy Scout Master of Troop #1012. He led groups to National Jamboree and Philmont Scout Ranch. Many young men attained the rank of Eagle Scout under his 32 years of leadership. He was a member of American Legion, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Sunset Lodge #623 F&AM, and the Pittsburgh Lodge of Perfection. Mr. Cahill was a welder-operator at Fischer Body Works (GM), in West Mifflin, for thirty-eight years. He was Presbyterian by faith. On September 17, 1954, he married Helen Jean Brownlee, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Douglas J. (Teri) Cahill, of North Huntington; a daughter, Debra (John) Gorby, of Helena, Alabama; five grandchildren, Meghan, Nathan, Lacy, Joshua, and Christopher; and three great grandchildren, Ashton, Alyssa, and Hayden. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012. The family suggests memorial contributions to Boy Scouts of America, Allegheny Trails Council, Pittsburgh, PA.
