Anna Orlosky Getto

June 22, 1914 — January 24, 2012

Anna Getto, 97, of Washington, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 22, 1914, in Greensburg, a daughter of Joseph Orlosky and Susan Begalla Orlosky. She married the late Adam Getto, Jr. in 1942. The couple purchased their first and only home on Allison Avenue in Washington in 1946, where they shared their lives with their six children. Anna’s early years were spent like most other people her age. She left school in the seventh grade to help support her family by providing child care and doing housework seven days a week, earning $3 a week. Even though times were hard, Anna enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like dances, fairs, sled riding, going for walks and being with friends. In later years she excelled as a wife, mother, and homemaker. Anna loved to fly and traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe. She spent hours playing cards with three generations of family, watching the news and game shows. Anna also enjoyed polka music, Sarris Chocolates, the Pirates and Steelers. She was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church and served as secretary/treasurer of SNPJ Lodge 521 for 14 years. Surviving are a son, Frank Polinski (Diane) of San Diego, California; five daughters, Pearl Ann Florian (Fred) of Camden, South Carolina, Marianne Povich (Ron Fisher), Susanne Gomez (Frank) and Helen Mazza (Patsy), all of Washington, and JoAnn Faber (Terry) of Butler; two sisters, Katherine Funka and Helen Chmiel, both of Washington; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a brother, Nick Orlosky, and a sister, Susie Orlosky. Friends will be received Thursday from 3 till 8 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, January 27th, with Father Joseph Jugan officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 166 East College St., Canonsburg, PA 15317.
