Melba Hope Davis Barr

Melba Hope Davis Barr, 80, of Washington, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at the Donnell House, after a lengthy illness. She was born on March 14, 1931, in Greensboro, PA, a daughter of Thomas H. and Hazel M. Phillips Davis. A homemaker, she was Methodist by faith. Mrs. Barr attended Washington High School. She belonged to the Washington Chapter 318, Women of the Moose, and the Arden Club. On June 12, 1971, she married Charles Ralph “Jake” Barr, who died on July 6, 2009. Surviving are 2 sons, Kenneth (Sherri) Flynn, of Warnersville, PA; and Patrick Michael (Lori) Flynn, of Washington; 2 daughters, Deborah (Charles) Lazear, of Bridgeville, and Gwendola “Gwen” (Charles) Gongaware, of Washington; 2 stepsons, Charles Allan Barr, of Columbus, OH, and Ralph Eugene (Susan) Barr, of Clarksville, TN; 2 stepdaughters, Deanna (Mark) McAlister, of Williamsburg, VA, and Tina K. (Mike) Phillips, of Clarksville, TN; 8 grandchildren, Candy Harrison, Charles William Lazear, Lisa Gongaware, Michelle Lazear, Janna Harris, John Andrew “Andy” Harris, Heather Flynn and Shawna Flynn; 11 great grandchildren; as well as 2 good friends at Humbert Lane, Connie and Helen. Deceased, are a daughter, Candy Sue Flynn, a grandson, Mark Allen Harris, and 5 sisters, Wilda Hoban, Gwendola Cummins, Betty Thompson, Stella Fawcett and Mary Archer. Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden St., Washington, PA, where services will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Bellhy officiating. Burial will follow in North Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery.
