Bernard Louis Frabell, 83, of Washington, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, in his residence, following a brief illness.
He was born July 17, 1927, in Wheeling, WV, a son of Walter V. Frabell, Sr. and Kathryn Gaus Frabell.
Immediately after high school, he joined the U. S. Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Area during World War II. He participated in the Occupation of China, from November 7, 1945 to June 19, 1947 and was Honorably Discharged on February 9, 1949.
Mr. Frabell was a U.S. Postal mail carrier for thirty years and worked at Brockway Glass and Duncan Miller for twenty years.
He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and a life-member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 927, where he served as past commander three times.
Mr. Frabell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and solving cryptograms. He loved to walk, work in his yard and workshop, and liked doing plumbing and electrical work. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He was Catholic by faith and was an altar boy in Immaculate Conception Church when he was young.
On February 14, 1989, he married Helen Comfort, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John (Pam) Frabell, of Houston, and Edward (Taffy) Frabell, of Washington; a daughter, Suzi (James) Smith of Washington; four grandchildren, Joseph (Susan) Frabell, Lisa (Glenn) Carlen, Matthew Frabell, and Maria Frabell; and four great grandchildren, Xavier Travis, Henry Douglas, Andrew Michael and Nathan James.
Deceased are two brothers, Thomas Charles Frabell and Walter V. Frabell, Jr.; and a sister, Kathryn Wooldridge.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where a Blessing Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011, with Father Thomas D. O’Neil officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
