Florence Carl Lowry, 85, of Washington, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, in her residence.
She was born August 25, 1925, in Independence Township, a daughter of James and Elizabeth Buchanan Carl.
A graduate of Avella High School in 1943 and Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, she was a registered nurse at Washington Hospital, retiring in 1975.
Mrs. Lowry was a member of Grove United Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school in the Nursery Class.
She was a member of Buffalo Homemakers Group, enjoyed cooking, quilting, and making Teddy Bears.
Mrs. Lowry was a member of the Quilting Bees at Meadowcroft Village and a former member of West Middletown Farm Advisory of PA. Farm Association.
Mrs. Lowry and her surviving husband, Robert David Lowry, were married December 20, 1947, and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Also surviving are three sons, James Lowry, and wife Deborah, of Washington, Richard Lowry and David Lowry, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Lucas, Ava, Ethan, Timothy, and Jennifer Lowry, Stephanie Feehan, and Dana Campbell; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, who were very special to her.
Deceased are four brothers, Irwin, Loren, James and Harry Carl.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. There will be no visitation on Sunday. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2011, in Grove United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Burial will follow in West Middletown Cemetery.
