Arthur Maggi, 80, of Washington, died Friday, March 4, 2011, in his winter residence in Avon Park, Florida.
He was born January 3, 1931, in Washington, a son of Carl and Mary Zappi Maggi.
Mr. Maggi enlisted in the Army on March 4, 1952. He served in Germany and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Germany. On March 4, 1954, he was honorably discharged with a rank of corporal.
Mr. Maggie worked at McGraw-Edison in Canonsburg for 30 years, retiring as a winder.
He was a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Italian Club in Canonsburg, and American Legion 639 in Claysville.
Mr. Maggi enjoyed camping, traveling and attending football games, especially Notre Dame games.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Barbara Scott Maggi, whom he married December 9, 1954; two sons, Wayne (Valerie) Maggi of Bradenton, Florida and Kevin Maggi of Washington; two daughters, Debra (James) Thomas of Cherry Hill, New Jersey and Diane Coffman of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; a brother, Carl Maggi of Claysville; a sister, Pauline Chappel of Houston; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, James, Brittany, Brian, Taylor and Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Eugene Maggi.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 10th, in St. Hilary Church, with Father Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Hunt-Kennedy Post 639.
