David Allen Dayton, 62, of Wellsburg, WV, died on Saturday, September 1, 2018, in Valley Hospice Liza’s Place Care Center South, in Wheeling, WV. He was born on November 6, 1955, in Wheeling, WV. David graduated from John Marshall High School, and received a Master of Education degree from West Virginia University. Mr. Dayton was an educator for thirty-six years, and taught music at Washington High School. He played the trumpet, played in a brass quintet, performed with the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, and played with many celebrities who performed in the area. Mr. Dayton loved all WVU sports. On July 11, 2001, he married Amity Whitlatch, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Brian (Ashley) Dayton, of Hurricane, WV; two sisters, Becky (Dale) Moore, of Lexington, KY and Billie Jo Derrow, of Virginia; a grandson, Hudson Dayton; and Amity’s parents, Norm and Jackie Whitlatch, of Shadyside, OH. Deceased are his parents, Bernard William Derrow and Letty Hembra Derrow and a sister, Lois Jean Shimp. Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, from 4 until 7 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA. At the requested of the deceased, there will be no services.
